SEND Across the Curriculum
Here you will find information about how we support SEND pupils across the whole curriculum!
By having a good understanding of the four broad areas of need, our teachers are able to identify barriers that some of our learners may face in different subject areas and use a range of strategies to adapt provision in order to support them. We intentionally plan for the success of all students, minimising the barriers that pupils may face in accessing and engaging with the full curriculum. Through quality first teaching, flexible use of TA support, personalised learning plans (which may involve 1:1 or small group teaching), specific interventions and external support, we build on every child’s starting point, to ensure all children reach the best possible outcomes in all areas of learning.
Subject leaders work closely with the SENDCo to ensure that appropriate adaptations are being made for SEND learners within their curriculum area. Adaptations across the curriculum are documented within teacher’s plans and on SEND IEPs and learning support plans, with monitoring of SEND provision being an integral part of our whole school monitoring.
Please view the documents below (updated September 2024) to read how subject leaders ensure the following within their curriculum area:
- The needs of SEND learners are met
- Potential barriers are identified and provision to overcome them is made
- Assessments are based on knowledge rather than purely scores in tests and the ability to record work
- SEND pupils are able to retain their knowledge
- SEND pupils are challenged (many of our SEND pupils excel in specific curriculum areas)
