Today Mary class have celebrated number day to raise money for the NSPCC. We have enjoyed some extra maths challenges and taken part in a maths quiz, with the winning team winning a prize each!

The Year 3 children enjoyed spending Wednesday afternoon with the 'Scoot Safety' team! They learnt about how to maintain their scooters, how to correctly fit their helmets and all about making safe choices when they're scooting!

Anti-Bullying week, by Miss Palacio

Last week the children took part in a live lesson with CBBC, they enjoyed learning all about the focus for anti bullying week and how we can be respectful to one another. They then had a go at writing their own acrostic poem for RESPECT.
Shared reading of fables, by Miss Palacio

Mary class have been exploring lots of different fables this half term, they have used their magic microphones to read the fables as a class through shared reading techniques.

In guided reading one group of children have been reading a playscript and practising reading with tone and intonation ready to perform to the class. They all did exceptionally well!
Baptism discussion in church, by Miss Palacio

Mary class had our class mass this morning followed by a discussion with Father Mark about Baptism. The children enjoyed listening to Fr Mark go through each stage of Baptism, they looked at the different oils used, the Easter candle in which the Baptismal candle is lit from and the font where the holy water is poured onto the babies head.

Mary class have been interviewing characters to find out how they felt at different parts of the story - we found out that the Hare felt over confident and therfore lost the race!

The children have been learning about baptism and making promises, they took it in turns to interview each other in role of a parent and a parishioner. Children as parents answered questions such as; why do you want your child to be baptised? How will you show your faith to your children? Do you come to church regularly? What is the most important part of baptism to you?

The children in Marsden and Mary classes shared their recent English work with each other. They enjoyed listening to children from a different class and sharing their work with them too.

Mary class have been exploring poems this week. They have particularly had fun this morning having a go at freeze framing parts of the poem 'The Spider and the Fly'.
Cleaning coins, by Miss Palacio

The children in Mary class have been making enquries into which substance would be the most effective at cleaning a dirty coin. They made sure to carry out a fair test by keeping the amount of solution the same and testing for the same amount of time. They even tested each solution againt the pH scale to see the acidity of each substance. After their experiment they did an extra test, adding some bicarbonate of soda to each solution to see if that cleaned the coins any better. They liked when the soda reacted with some of the solutions and began to bubble and foam.

Mary class have enjoyed writing their own version of The Tin Forest in their folktale unit. After they had finished their version written completely independently they enjoyed sharing it with their peers.
Making solar ovens, by Miss Palacio

The children enjoyed designing and making their own solar ovens in science, they experimented with different materials and tested which one was best to melt chocolate.
Science Live Lesson, by Miss Palacio

The children really enjoyed taking part in the science live lesson delivered by Delivering Experts. They experimented with a vinegar solution and bicarbonate of soda to see how much foam was made.

The children have enjoyed a local walk through Bamber Bridge identifying the human and physical featured they could see.
